By solidifying protections for immigrant residents at risk of deportation, we also want to send a message to every immigrant in the city that they are not alone, that they are valued, and that they are worthy. We ask the Flagstaff City Council to craft and pass an ordinance with the following provisions:
-
Prohibition on Use of City Resources for Federal Immigration Enforcement: The ordinance explicitly bans utilizing city resources, property, or personnel to assist federal immigration authorities in enforcement activities or conduct its own immigration inquiry and enforcement activities.
-
Restriction on Data Sharing: It prohibits both direct and indirect sharing of residents' information with federal immigration agencies, ensuring that personal data collected by city departments is not used for immigration enforcement purposes.
- Mandatory Compliance Audits and Staff Training: City departments and divisions are required to audit and revise their internal protocols to ensure adherence to the ordinance. This includes training staff to comply with the new regulations, particularly concerning data-sharing restrictions.
