IMANI OAKLEY
2022 CANDIDATE FOR U.S. CONGRESS - NEW JERSEY'S 10TH DISTRICT
Born in New Brunswick and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Imani’s roots in this state run deep. With her community’s support, she attended Howard University, New York University, and Howard University School of Law. She still ended up with $500K in student loan debt. Imani worked as a Constituent Advocate for the U.S. Senate and then as a Deputy Chief of Staff in the New Jersey Legislature. She quickly became disheartened by the rabid corruption in New Jersey and decided to join the New Jersey Working Families Alliance as their Legislative Director, fighting against New Jersey’s corrupt ballot line and the immoral party boss system. Later, she became the Dean of Movement Building at Movement School Campus, helping create programs to teach progressives from marginalized backgrounds how to run campaigns nationwide.
